What’s shaping the meat industry
on the floor, on the shelf, and in the boardroom
Welcome to the July edition of MRG Wire – Meat Industry Insights. The summer production push is on, and the demand for top-tier talent is just as intense. That’s why we’re turning to the insights of our VP of Business Development, Denise Chludzinski. With nearly two decades of recruiting experience and an exclusive focus on the meat industry, she has a rare perspective on its biggest talent challenges. Inside, she shares a practical blueprint for solving the ‘tribal knowledge’ problem on maintenance teams, and we break down the latest hiring trends for Quality and Sales leaders.
Building Your Talent Pipeline from the Ground Up
By Denise Chludzinski, VP of Business Development
The ‘tribal knowledge’ leaving your plant is not coming back. Every executive I speak with is concerned about the wave of retirements on their maintenance and engineering teams. The issue is not just finding new people. It is finding people with the practical, hands on skills to troubleshoot complex machinery on day one. A theoretical understanding is not enough when a critical production line goes down.

Last week, I saw a powerful solution in action at Waubonsee Community College, located just outside of Chicago, during the kickoff for its new Industrial Maintenance Program. This is not just another vocational course. It is a focused talent incubator built in direct partnership with industry leaders like SACA (Smart Automation Certification Alliance) and Amatrol.
The model is brilliantly simple and effective. Students receive hands on training paired with online modules to earn certifications that the industry actually recognizes and trusts. They are learning to solve the real world problems that facilities face every day. This program is designed to produce technicians who can make an immediate impact.

For hiring authorities, this changes everything. It offers a clear answer to the question of where your next generation of skilled maintenance professionals will come from. This type of partnership between industry and education is the most viable strategy I have seen to bridge the hiring gap we will all face for the next five years. Companies that engage with these programs will have a significant competitive advantage. They will not be searching for talent. They will be co-creating it.

Industry Insight
Here is what our team is seeing on the ground as we head into the second half of the year.
Demand for experienced Quality and Food Safety leaders remains intense. With evolving regulations and brand trust as a key competitive battleground, roles that protect operational integrity are a top priority for our clients.
We’re also seeing a spike in demand for commercial leaders in the foodservice channel. The focus is on talent with a deep knowledge of meat specifications and a proven ability to grow revenue with key accounts while protecting quality standards.
