This position offers the opportunity to lead hardware design efforts, contribute technical expertise across complex automation projects, and support customers in a variety of manufacturing environments.

The ideal candidate is a driven, hands-on engineer who enjoys taking ownership of projects from initial proposal through final system delivery. This role provides opportunities to deepen technical expertise, establish engineering standards, mentor junior engineers, and pursue future career paths in technical leadership, project management, sales, or engineering management.

Key Responsibilities

As a Hardware Design Engineer, you will:

  • Lead hardware design development for distributed control systems (DCS) and other industrial automation systems.
  • Drive projects through the full lifecycle, from proposal and initial design through testing and delivered system.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and contribute to hardware design best practices.
  • Develop and improve engineering standards that increase quality, productivity, and consistency.
  • Design control panels and associated industrial control system hardware.
  • Travel to customer sites and panel fabrication shops to support acceptance testing and project activities.
  • Mentor junior design engineers while continuing to expand your own technical expertise.
  • Collaborate with project teams, customers, vendors, and other stakeholders to successfully deliver automation projects.

Preferred Education

Bachelor’s degree or higher in one of the following disciplines:

  • Chemical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Robotics Engineering
  • Bioengineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Computer Engineering
  • Computer Science

Equivalent professional experience demonstrating knowledge and technical competency consistent with a bachelor’s-level engineering education may also be considered.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in control system electrical design within manufacturing or industrial environments.
  • Experience designing control panels, PLC/DCS control systems, remote I/O, industrial networks, low-voltage motor controls, variable frequency drives (VFDs), emergency-stop circuitry, and related industrial control system hardware.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or comparable engineering design software.
  • Working knowledge of PLC, HMI, SCADA, DCS, and industrial control networking technologies.
  • Understanding of process control and/or manufacturing processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage technical responsibilities throughout the complete project lifecycle.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common business applications.
  • Professional, collaborative, and adaptable working style.
  • Ability to work outside standard business hours when project requirements demand it.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to customer and vendor locations as required.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness to complete drug testing and/or background checks when required for employment or customer contractual requirements.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be an effective technical contributor who thrives in a fast-paced, project-driven environment. This individual will be comfortable taking ownership of complex hardware design activities, collaborating across disciplines, solving technical challenges, and helping establish consistent engineering practices.

This position is well suited for an engineer interested in both immediate technical responsibility and long-term professional growth within industrial automation and control systems.
