Position Title: Journeyman Service Technician (HVAC)

Compensation: Union scale hourly (Union scale / Journeyman rate) + Overtime Opportunities

Opportunity Overview

A well-established, family-owned commercial mechanical and custom fabrication contractor in Northern Illinois is seeking a skilled Journeyman Service Technician to join its growing service division. Known for high craftsmanship standards, strong leadership, and a supportive, team-focused culture, the company provides stable, year-round commercial and industrial HVAC work.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnostics & Service: Diagnose, repair, service, and maintain commercial and industrial HVAC equipment, including RTUs, boilers, furnaces, make-up air units, exhaust systems, and control systems.

• Maintenance & Inspections: Perform routine preventative maintenance, safety checks, and system tune-ups across regional job sites.

• Technical Interpretation: Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical specifications.

• Client & Team Communication: Clearly communicate diagnostic findings, repair recommendations, and job status to customers and internal management.

• Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all trade safety protocols, OSHA standards, and EPA guidelines for refrigerant handling.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum 5 years of commercial HVAC service experience preferred.

• Union Status:Current Journeyman status in good standing with the union (or qualified and ready to operate at the Journeyman level).

• Certifications: EPA Universal Certification and a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

• Core Strengths: Strong diagnostic abilities, independent problem-solving skills, dependability, and a professional, customer-focused attitude. 

• Physical Demands: Ability to navigate rooftops, climb ladders, access mechanical rooms, and lift up to 50 lbs as required.
