Senior Business Development Manager
Miller Resource Group
Absolutely. I removed the company name and other identifying references and adapted the language so it reads naturally as a candidate-facing LinkedIn job posting rather than an internal job description. I kept the Omaha location and the strong emphasis on municipal/utility water and wastewater, automation/controls, strategic relationship development, and senior-level business development.
Senior Business Development Manager
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
The Opportunity
We are seeking an accomplished Senior Business Development Manager to drive client acquisition, strategic relationship development, and profitable revenue growth throughout the Omaha and surrounding Nebraska market.
This is a senior-level opportunity for a relationship-driven business development professional who understands how to build business within municipal and utility water/wastewater, industrial automation, controls, SCADA, engineering services, or related technical markets.
You will have the opportunity to develop relationships well before projects reach the formal bid stage, understand customers’ long-term capital plans and upcoming initiatives, and help position the organization as a trusted technical partner.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical-market knowledge with the ability to develop relationships, create opportunities, manage complex pursuits, and ultimately close business.
What You’ll Do
-
Own and advance a healthy pipeline of business opportunities throughout the Omaha/Nebraska market.
-
Proactively identify and create new business opportunities rather than relying solely on incoming RFPs and RFQs.
-
Develop strategic relationships with municipal and utility owners, consulting engineers, general and electrical contractors, technology partners, and other industry influencers.
-
Build relationships early in the project lifecycle to understand capital plans, upcoming projects, procurement strategies, and specification influences.
-
Develop and execute pursuit strategies, including qualification, positioning, and go/no-go decisions.
-
Lead the commercial and customer-facing strategy for both specification-driven and consultative opportunities.
-
Partner closely with engineering and technical teams to translate customer needs and specifications into competitive solutions.
-
Participate in scope development, pricing strategy, proposal reviews, presentations, interviews, and negotiations.
-
Maintain disciplined pipeline management and forecasting, including accurate opportunity stages, values, close dates, next steps, and forecast status.
-
Develop deeper relationships within strategic accounts by building connections across multiple stakeholders and decision-makers.
-
Identify commercial, technical, relationship, and pursuit risks early and help develop appropriate solutions.
-
Participate in relevant industry associations, conferences, utility events, and partner activities.
-
Serve as a senior resource and mentor to other Business Development professionals, sharing best practices around prospecting, relationship development, pursuit strategy, presentations, proposals, forecasting, and deal management.
What We’re Looking For
-
10+ years of technical sales or business development experience, ideally within one or more of the following:
-
Municipal or utility water/wastewater
-
Industrial automation
-
Control systems / SCADA
-
Systems integration
-
Engineering services
-
Municipal infrastructure
-
Related technical or project-driven markets
-
-
Demonstrated success developing new business, managing a sales pipeline, forecasting, qualifying opportunities, and achieving revenue goals.
-
Strong understanding of relationship-driven and specification-driven sales environments.
-
Experience working with consulting engineers, contractors, owners, utilities, and other project stakeholders.
-
Familiarity with public-sector procurement, specifications, RFP/RFQ processes, and consulting-engineer relationships is highly valued.
-
Strong client-facing communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
-
Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
-
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
What Will Make You Successful
We’re looking for someone who approaches business development as more than simply responding to bids. You understand the value of being in front of customers early, developing genuine long-term relationships, learning where future investments are headed, and helping shape opportunities before they reach formal procurement.
You should be comfortable balancing relationship development, technical collaboration, strategic selling, pipeline management, and closing business while working collaboratively with engineering, operations, technical specialists, and leadership.
Just as importantly, you’ll bring a collaborative leadership style and the judgment, humility, optimism, decisiveness, and professionalism expected of a senior member of the team.
If you have built your career at the intersection of technical solutions, relationship development, and complex project sales and are excited by the opportunity to grow a strong market presence in Omaha and throughout Nebraska, we’d like to hear from you.
