Salary: $100,000+ annual base salary commensurate with experience

Opportunity Overview

A well-established, family-owned commercial mechanical and custom fabrication contractor in Northern Illinois is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator / Project Manager. Known for high craftsmanship standards, custom architectural and industrial sheet metal capabilities, and a collaborative work culture, the company is expanding its operations and looking for a key operational leader.

This dual-capability role will oversee the complete lifecycle of commercial and industrial mechanical projects—from reviewing bid documents and delivering accurate estimates to managing awarded jobs through successful completion.

Key Responsibilities

• Estimating & Bidding:Prepare thorough cost estimates for commercial/industrial mechanical and sheet metal projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor scopes. Review construction drawings, develop competitive proposals, and maintain accurate cost databases.

• Project Management:Direct awarded projects from kickoff to final closeout. Track project budgets, schedule execution, material coordination, and scope changes.

• Field & Client Coordination: Serve as a primary point of contact for general contractors, project owners, vendors, field supervisors, and union tradespeople.

• Risk Management: Identify project roadblocks early and implement solutions to protect project quality and profitability.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience: 5+ years of experience in estimating and/or project management within commercial HVAC, sheet metal, or mechanical contracting.

• Education: Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical discipline preferred (or equivalent hands-on trade experience).

Technical Skills:

• Proficiency reading and interpreting architectural/engineering drawings and specifications.

• Deep understanding of commercial HVAC systems, ductwork design, and sheet metal fabrication.

• Familiarity with union construction environments is a plus.

• Core Strengths: Strong business acumen, excellent organizational skills, approachable communication style, and a proactive, self-starter mindset.
